ABOUT NEEKA

Neeka is an oil painter and muralist based in Saint Louis. Her work draws attention to nature and reconnects us to the environment through dreamlike, botanical landscapes. Nature is reimagined on a cosmic scale, with blossoming, sea life-like forms building vibrant, energetic worlds.

Over the past six years, she has painted murals that have contributed to the Saint Louis community. She received a grant from the Cherokee Arts District for a mural on the side of Elaine’s Sandwich Shop on Cherokee Street and painted another for the non-profit Perennial, where she works part-time. All other murals have been self-funded.

For three consecutive years, she has participated in Paint Louis, a community event where artists and locals paint along the Mississippi River. She finishes her pieces in 8-12 hours, sourcing free house paint from her community. Her work has been showcased in galleries across Saint Louis and other cities. With a distinctive and evolving style, she continues to grow as an artist.

ABOUT THIS MURAL

The Mississippi River is relevant to all parts of Saint Louis, especially Ward 1, because of its proximity to the water. Neeka’s mural features a river with new growth, lush blooming plants that resemble flowers or tulip bulbs in spring, and wild onions and grasses that grow along the Mississippi River. The river brings cargo into St. Louis from across international trading markets which lends to the International businesses along South Grand.
