Inspired by the intelligence and emotional wisdom of young people, Metro Theater Company creates professional theater, fosters inclusive community, and nurture meaningful learning through the arts. MTC is St. Louis’s third-oldest professional theater and the region’s premier theater for young audiences.

Founded in 1973, MTC’s inspiration and audience has always been young people. In its first 30 years, MTC focused on serving St. Louis and on touring all over the world. In its 50-year history, Metro Theater Company has toured more than 40 productions – over 30 of them original works – to 41 states, as well as to Canada, Italy, Japan, and Taiwan. Since the mid 2000’s, performances have been primarily anchored by the needs of the young people in the St. Louis metropolitan region, as well as outlying communities in Missouri and southern Illinois. In total, MTC has served well over 2.5 million young people in and outside of the US, nearly every school district in the St. Louis region, and in 2020 added virtual programming.
